Detroit police officer shocked by live wire while responding to traffic crash on city's west side

A police officer is recovering after she came into contact with a live wire on Friday while at the scene of a car crash that injured five people in Detroit, authorities said.

DETROIT (WWJ) - A police officer is recovering after she came into contact with a live wire on Friday while at the scene of a car crash that injured five people in Detroit, authorities said.

The Detroit Police Department said the female officer is in stable condition following the incident on Dec. 2 and is expected to make a full recovery.

The officer was responding to the scene of a wreck in the 19200 block of Paul Ave. between the Southfield Freewway and Evergreen when she was shocked by the wire.

According to police, the crash occurred when a driver failed to yield at a stop sing and hit anther vehicle.

All five people injured in the crash, including a 12-year-old, are said to be in stable condition.
