It’s not as easy as ABC.
Amy Robach and husband Andrew Shue “went to [divorce] mediation” ahead of reports this week that she and her “Good Morning America” co-anchor T.J. Holmes are in a relationship, a source told People.
Robach, 49, and the 55-year-old “Melrose Place” alum — who appears to have deleted all photos of her from his Instagram following reports of the new romance — were “about ready to settle their divorce,” according to the insider.
The spouses “were waiting on [the settlement] to tell people” that the “marriage was over,” and it just so happened that the world learned of her relationship with Holmes, 45, before they could do so, according to the source.
“The woman had [breast] cancer for a long time. She was very preoccupied with that,” said the source, noting Robach and Shue had some “difficult” times early in the summer in addition to “issues before.”
The ABC colleagues “joked how good their chemistry was, but they shut it down and made it clear they were each going through their own stuff and there was nothing between them,” the insider said, adding that the now-couple “were best friends, so when their marriages ended, he was there for her and it was a very natural transition.”
Both Robach’s split from Shue and Holmes’ from wife Marilee Fiebig occurred in August, sources have told People this week. Both couples married in 2010.
Though “comfortable dating in the open” following the splits, another source told People that rumors of a romance between Robach and Holmes were circulating “about a year ago,” but died down.
