NEW YORK – Two Loyola University Maryland freshmen made their collegiate debuts in record-setting fashion on one of the biggest stages in indoor track and field on Friday.
Jamie Adams and
Lauryn Clarke etched their names into the Greyhounds' record book during their first competition for the school, the Rutgers Holiday Classic at the famed New Balance Track & Field Center at The Armory.
Adams and Clarke both ran 7.78 in the 60 meters to set a new standard in the short sprint, and both took down an additional record in other races.
Adams won the 200 meters in a time of 24.89, and Clarke ran 40.90 in the 300 meters to set a school record with a sixth-place finish.
Another Loyola freshman had one of the 10-best times in school indoor history, as
Meghan Leonard ran 1:41.30 in the 600 meters, the No. 6 time in school history. Youth were not the only ones to have top performances as senior
Stephanie Tracy ran the No. 6 time in Loyola history in the 300 meters, 43.01.
Taylor McHugh and
Caroline O'Connell each had top-10 finishes in the 400 meters with McHugh crossing the line seventh in 62.53, while O'Connell was ninth in 63.81. Four Greyhounds –
Maeve Lowther (sixth, 3:14.67),
Kasey Boag (seventh, 3:19.77), Samantha Spargo (eighth, 3:20.37) and
Maddie Hyde (ninth (3:24.73) – finished in the top 10, as well, in the 1,000 meters.
Norah Affanato ran her first collegiate indoor race and was fifth in the mile, running 5:35.94, while
Marissa Branham Rodriguez was seventh in 5:57.96.
Clarke, Leonard, McHugh and Adams finished fifth in the 4x400-meter relay with a time of 4:02.64.
Madelyn Ricard and
Ava Dunn were 23
rd and 30
th in the 60 meters, running 8.14 and 8.42. McHugh took 18
th in the 200 meters in 27.06, while Ricard was 24
th (27.88).
Ainsley Jodlbauer was two spots back of Tracy in 45.06.
Megan McCusker took 13
th in the 400 meters with a time of 66.40, while
Carly Spinnler and
Melanie Torales were 13
th and 16
th, respectively, in the 600 meters in 1:43.85 and 1:51.40.
