The New York Mets and Texas Rangers are set to fight over another free-agent pitcher after the latter landed Jacob deGrom on Friday.

Both clubs are among many teams interested in right-hander Jameson Taillon, reports Jon Heyman of MLB Network.

New York's rotation needs significant work following the departures of deGrom, Chris Bassitt, and Taijuan Walker, while Texas' front office still has some work to do to help a group that finished last season with a combined 4.63 ERA, sixth worst in the majors.

Taillon went 14-5 with a 3.91 ERA and 151 strikeouts over 177 1/3 innings (32 starts) for the New York Yankees last season in what was his best campaign since 2018.

The 31-year-old has also pitched for the Pittsburgh Pirates over his six-year career.
