Town of Sperry Mayor Debra Burch announced on Facebook that part-time Captain Scott Henderson has passed.
"Scott came to our police department when we need it the most and we are so grateful for the time he spent with us. He offered experience and support," Burch said.
According to the post, Henderson ran investigations and helped set plans and goals for the future growth of the Sperry Police Department.
"He loved this small town and community," Burch continued. "The things we will remember most about Captain Henderson will be his smile, laugh, and positive views on the future. Our prayers go out to his family and our police department."
According to Oklahoma.Gov, Henderson was serving as a Captain with SPD as its Chief Investigator and Training Administrator.
Henderson began his career in 1998 and was previously employed with the Department of Corrections and Bixby Police Department.
While serving Bixby, he was president of Lodge 189 for ten years and a K9 officer for 16 total years with four different dogs.
Henderson also served as Crisis Negotiator on the Southwest Area Tactical Team which covers Jenks, Bixby, Sapulpa, and Sand Springs.
He was also an NRA Firearms, Taser, and CLEET LEDT Instructor.
Henderson received his bachelor's degree from Northeastern State University in criminal justice and an associates degrees from Tulsa Community College and Redlands Community College.
Henderson had recently completed the OSBI Crime Investigators Course offered by NSU.
