I Love Pizza, So I Decided To Try Pizza Hut's New "Melts" To See What The Deal Is

    Hello, friends. In case you're new here, I like to try random and sometimes ~wild~ foods on occasion. And the latest ones to grab my attention recently are these new "Melts" from Pizza Hut. I love pizza, and I love random food mashups, so why not try it, right?

    "What is a Pizza Hut Melt?" you ask! Well, it's kinda like a melt sandwich that features two slices of Pizza Hut's Thin N’ Crispy® crust loaded with toppings and cheese, folded over, and then baked to melty perfection. So, yeah, it's basically a folded pizza without the marinara sauce. (Think of it as a thinner version of a calzone!)

    Now that we've gotten semantics out of the way, let's dive right in and take a look at what we're working with.

    So, there are four different recipes you can get:

    1) Meat Lover's® (served with marinara dipping sauce)

    2) Buffalo Chicken (served with Buffalo and ranch dipping sauces)

    3) Pepperoni Lover's® (served with marinara dipping sauce)

    4) Chicken Bacon Parmesan (served with ranch dipping sauce)

    Here's what each one looked like right out of the box:

    And here's what I thought...

    Thoughts: I should preface this by saying that I am not a big "multiple meats" on pizza person. Like, two is my limit. Having said that, I was pleasantly surprised that this didn't feel TOO meat heavy. I legit thought this was just pepperoni and sausage when I first bit into it. But turns out this one is loaded with pepperoni, ham, Italian sausage, pork, beef, bacon (and cheese). So WTF do I know?! I think if you're a meat lover kinda person you'll like this one a lot.

    Pepperoni Lover's®

    Thoughts: I think because I tried this one after the Meat Lover's, I thought it was just OK. I normally love pepperoni pizza, but this felt a little basic to me? It wasn't bad or anything, just nothing amazing to write home about. I will say that dipping it in the marinara sauce made it a lot more flavorful, so I'd recommend having it that way if you try it!

    Buffalo Chicken

    Thoughts: This one packed a lot of flavor, which wasn't surprising considering it's loaded with chicken, onion, Buffalo sauce, and cheese. It's not that hot/spicy (considering there's Buffalo sauce in it), but it's definitely tangy, which I liked. The one downside was that there were lots of LARGE onion chunks in mine, which sometimes overpowered the rest of the flavors. Otherwise, I really liked it!

    Chicken Bacon Parmesan

    Thoughts: This was easily my favorite of all four melts. It has chicken, bacon, creamy Alfredo sauce, and cheese, and frankly, there isn't a single thing I'd change about it. And, yeah, I enjoyed dipping it in ranch sauce, too, because I am a glutton for savory food. Don't come for me!

    Fourth place: Pepperoni Lover's

    Overall Thoughts:

    Look, I get that most of you are going to be like, "OK, but that's just a folded pizza!," and while you're not entirely wrong, they're much more like a thin, crispy calzone. And, as someone who doesn't typically get thin-crust pizza, I actually really enjoyed 'em. The crust on these was buttery and crisp, not dry like a cracker, which IMO most thin-crust pizzas are like. So, that's a win in my book. Would I eat these all the time? Probably not, because ya know, it's still got all the same indulgent toppings as pizza, which I also don't eat every day (as much as I'd love to in some alternate universe). But for fun and something different? They're totally worth it!
