Residents of Jacksonville, Florida, have just two days left to submit their applications in order to be eligible to receive financial assistance to help pay rent or utility bills.
The money is available through the city’s Emergency Rental Assistance Program that aims to help residents who lost income due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The program has more than $3 million available to be disbursed to eligible applicants, distributing more than $62 million since its inception in March 2021.
Applications are due Monday at 5 p.m. Nearly 2,000 people had already applied for the program as of Wednesday morning.
“The money is first come, first served, but priority will be given to those that have incomes at 50% or below the AMI (average median income), those that have at least one member in the household that has been unemployed for 90 days or more and for pending evictions,” said Chiquita Moore, director of operations for the city of Jacksonville’s Neighborhoods Department, according to local TV station WJXT.

Eligible households could receive money to help pay for up to 12 months of past-due rent and utility bills. Families are considered eligible if they have an income that falls below 80% of the average median income, according to Moore.
Priority is then given to households with incomes that fall below 50% of the area median income or to those who have been unemployed for at least 90 days.
