Some in western Washington are waking up to another round of lowland snow Saturday morning. Following a brief break in the active weather Friday afternoon, a mix of rain, snow and sleet arrived in the Puget Sound lowlands overnight.
Snow has been falling across the Kitsap Peninsula and through the Hood Canal Region early Saturday morning. Highway 101 from Hoodsport to Brinnon could be sitting with 4-8 inches of snow accumulation by mid-morning Saturday.
KOMO News Meteorologist Kristin Clark said areas from Poulsbo south through Belfair could see about 2-4 inches of accumulation. Other areas on the Kitsap Peninsula could see around an inch of snow accumulation.
The National Weather Service (NWS) Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 10 a.m. for much of the Seattle metro area from north of Tacoma through Everett and into Skagit County. Most of western Kitsap County, and the lowland of eastern Jefferson and Mason counties remains under the same Winter Weather Advisory until 10 a.m. Saturday.
Heavy snow is also expected across the Olympic Mountains. The NWS issued a Winter Weather Advisory for areas of the Olympic mountains above 1,500 feet through Saturday morning. Total snow accumulations of 10 to 24 inches are possible.
This round of lowland snow is not as impactful as the storms earlier this week. Even still, sub-freezing conditions overnight may have allowed wet roads to refreeze so drivers should use caution if driving early Saturday morning.
The precipitation is tapering off from the south Saturday morning and the region should see mostly dry conditions by the afternoon.
Temperatures will be in the upper 30s to low 40s in most of western Washington, which will help melt away any remaining snow that fell overnight outside the Cascade foothills.
The next round of weather arrives Sunday with the possibility of a light rain/snow mix from the Puget Sound region south through Portland.
People traveling over White Pass on Sunday will encounter a fresh 2-4 inches of snow. Pierce and Thurston counties and areas along I-5 from Olympia south to Longview will likely see a trace to 0.5 inches of snow.
Overnight lows will continue to run below freezing, meaning icy road conditions will be in place through early next week.
