"It's going well," store manager Bill Williams said as customers waited in line at checkout counters Friday morning.

The store, which Williams described as a "low-end Kmart," features a large selection of discounted clothing, household items, fragrances, candy, blankets, space heaters and electronics.

The retail chain acknowledges its discount mindset on its website: "We understand that you work hard for your money and we have worked hard to build our reputation as the local, no-frills, marketplace for quality, name-brand items for you, your family, and your home. We know and believe that you deserve a place to find all you need and want in one convenient location."

Originally known as Rose's 5¢ 10¢ 25¢ Stores, the store chain was founded in 1915.

Located next door to Once Upon a Child, the new store occupies 50,000 square feet of what was previously Giant Eagle in the western end of the plaza.

The store's opening was first reported by YourErie.com.
