RIPON (WLUK) -- Hundreds of people could be seen having a dickens of a time in downtown Ripon Friday night with the commencement of the city's Dickens of a Christmas festival.
The historic downtown district was specially decorated with white lights and garland for the event.
The festival began with the Dickens Holiday Parade and the Dickens Gingerbread House Contest. The "vintage" Christmas scene was adorned with carriage rides and carolers as well.
The fun continues Saturday with an Enchanted Forest and the Dickens Tour of Homes. The highlight of the festival, Dickens of Christmas' Living Windows, will take place on Saturday evening.
The annual event is inspired by Ripon's rich history, including its connection to England's Ripon in North Yorkshire.
