The annual Living Windows event is happening tonight in downtown Jefferson City, and this year has some new elements to get visitors in the holiday spirit.
Getting people excited and in the Christmas spirit is one of the primary goals of Living Windows, which is now going on for 34 years. But this year is the first opening ceremony that will preface much of what will be happening this evening.
For many businesses, Living Windows is their chance to show off festive performances and decorations in the windows of their storefronts. Mayor Carrie Tergin and some Christmas characters kicked off the event and, in another twist, asked audience members for participation.
The formal ceremony will happen at 5:45, with the event and tree lighting at the governor's mansion joining together to begin at 6 p.m.
Living windows will shut down at 9 p.m. Friday.
