KIRTLAND, Ohio — The Kirtland Hornets battle the Marion Local Flyers in a fight for another state championship.

  • 'Now we’ve got to play one great game,' said Hornets head coach Tiger LaVerde.

The six-time state champion Kirtland Hornets will once again play for the state title.

On Thursday, the community held a pep rally.

The undefeated Hornets are led by a small group of seniors.

“I mean, we only [have] 11 of us,” said offensive lineman George Prusock. “It's a tight-knit group that we have. And I mean, I love, I love every single one of these guys that I'm playing with.”

The Hornets will face off against the undefeated Marion Local Flyers.

“Marion Local is a really is a very, very, very good football team,” said Prusock. “Not only are they fast and quick, they're well-coached. So it's going to be a tough match up for us this weekend.”

Head coach Tiger LaVerde has led the team to all six state championships.

“Here we are, playing week 16. That was the goal and now we've got to play one great game,” said LaVerde. “I think when two good teams meet, I think it's going to be whoever can limit their mistakes.”
