SHELBY TWP (WWJ) -- Following a series of vehicle break-ins Thursday night, Shelby Township Police issued a request for public assistance in identifying potential suspects.

According to the alert, the thefts occurred in the areas of 23 Mile and M-53, 23 Mile and Van Dyke Ave, and 26 Mile and Van Dyke Ave.

Investigators ask that citizens who saw or heard anything suspicious contact Shelby Twp Police at 586-731-2121 and ask for the Detective Bureau.

Anyone with outdoor security cameras should also review their footage from Thursday night, as they may have gotten a picture of the culprit(s).

This is an ongoing investigation. At this time, the motivation for the break-ins is unknown, and it is unclear what has been stolen.

Local residents can limit the risk of vehicle break-ins by parking in their driveways or garages, always locking their cars, and leaving garage or porch lights on at night.
