Strictly Come Dancing star Kym Marsh has called her cha cha cha routine a tribute to the legendary singer Irene Cara.

Dancing to her track 'Fame' as part of Strictly's Musicals Week, Kym said it was an honour for her performing to the song – following the news of the singer's passing last month (November 25).

"When I hear that song it just takes me right back to when I was a kid. [It's such] a legendary tune, from a legendary singer," she said during rehearsals. "It was always going to be an honour [to dance to the track], now even more so."

"There's no room for error," Kym continued, adding that it was strange to be watching Strictly at home while having Covid-19 last week.

"I'm so excited to be back this week. Back with Graziano, back with the gang and doing Irene Cara justice in musicals week."

The pair's routine, complete with '80s lycra and leg warmers, went down well with the crowd and judges, with Tess Daly calling it an "iconic number".

Leading the praise was head judge Shirley Ballas, who said: "You can actually move your body. There is no hiding behind a costume here, you actually look amazing."

Motsi Mabuse added: "You were out there shining all of the time... I thought you came back with a bang."

Despite praise from all four judges, Kym and Graziano ended the night at the bottom of the leaderboard with a score of 34.

Could the pair be at risk of ending up in the dance-off?

For one week only, Strictly Come Dancing airs on Friday (December 2) at 8pm on BBC One, with a results show on Saturday (December 3) at 5.40pm. Spin-off show Strictly: It Takes Two airs on weeknights on BBC Two. Both shows also stream on BBC iPlayer.
