EastEnders will revisit Ricky Butcher and Sam Mitchell's romantic history.

The pair were the golden couple of Albert Square in the mid-1990s, when they ran away together to get married at Gretna Green in an iconic episode.

Now that Ricky is back in Walford, new scenes airing next week will hint at romantic chemistry once again for the former couple.

The situation develops when Mick Carter runs late for a scheduled lunch with Janine Butcher so he can get to know her brother Ricky a bit better.

While Janine is furious with Mick at first, he manages to charm Ricky and soothe any fears that he still has feelings for former wife Linda Carter.

However, Janine is once again consumed with jealousy after Shirley Carter reveals Linda had called in sick for work. Janine immediately suspects Mick was late because he was with Linda.

Mick is busy trying to win over his future brother-in-law by offering to put in a good word with Sam on his behalf. When he speaks with Sam, Mick responds to her hesitancy by warning her not to pass up the right man.

Ricky is thrilled when Mick returns to the Vic with the good news that Sam has agreed to go on a date with him.

As the former lovers embark on their date, it's not long before they fall back into old patterns and have a wonderful night together. Even a row with Zack over their order doesn't derail the mood.

The night ends with Ricky hoping to properly rekindle his relationship with Sam, but does she feel the same way?

Viewers have seen that Sam has been trying anything to cosy up to Jack Branning, another of her former lovers and father of her son Ricky Mitchell.
