Grandview Heights police now searching for a group of people they said is responsible for a rash of crimes that include the robbery of a delivery driver at gunpoint and the damaging of a police cruiser.
"It's still an ongoing investigation, but yes, we do believe it's all connected," Grandview Heights police Sgt. Janna Cohill said.
Cohill said investigators believe three to five people are linked to the recent crimes that have happened around Grandview Yard.
An Amazon Delivery driver was robbed at gunpoint and his Toyota filled with customer packages was stolen around 7 a.m. Tuesday.
"They pulled a gun, and they said nothing, they just took the car," the driver's brother said.
The driver's car was recovered a short time later but the packages were gone.
Police said the robbery suspects were seen unloading packages from the delivery driver's Toyota and into a second vehicle, a red Kia which was stolen on Yard Street a short time later.
Wednesday night, Grandview Heights officers tried to stop a Land Rover in a Grandview Yard parking garage, that had been reported stolen earlier in the day in Dublin.
The driver in the stolen vehicle did not stop; instead, it hit the police cruiser and drove away.
After a brief police pursuit, two teenage girls, linked to the stolen Land Rover were arrested in Franklinton. The stolen vehicle was found not far from where the girls were taken into custody.
Cohill said investigators believe three to five people are behind the crime ring.
"Theft is the main problem here," Cohill said. "They are either stealing vehicles, now they are doing robberies, they are stealing packages."
Police are now searching for those suspects, including those wanted for the Amazon delivery driver robbery.
The driver told us he hopes they are caught before another driver is targeted.
"There's a lot of Amazon drivers working, and they are looking for packages, because of the holidays," he said.
Anyone with information about the crimes is asked to call Grandview Heights Police at 614-488-7901.
