Archdiocese of New York hosts info clinic to help asylum seekers
The clinic took place at the St. Jerome H.A.N.D.S. Community Center in the Bronx, and organizers say the goal of the clinic is to create a safe space for people seeking asylum who need resources.

6h agoOver 70 people, many of whom are seeking asylum, took part in a free informational clinic hosted by Catholic Charities of the Archdiocese of New York.
The clinic took place at the St. Jerome H.A.N.D.S. Community Center in the Bronx, and organizers say the goal of the clinic is to create a safe space for people seeking asylum who need resources.
Givanny Centano was one of the many who took part in Friday’s free legal clinic. He and his family have been in the United States for two months after fleeing Nicaragua. Centano spent an hour at the clinic speaking with an attorney regarding his immigration status and the resources he can access to help him and his family.
“We were given an emergency food assistance,” said Centano. “We are still waiting to see if we qualify for the monthly assistance until we are able to find a job.”
Advocates at the session say the free legal advice and services are needed now more than ever because of the daily influx of asylum seekers into New York City.
