Fatal shooting of 14-year-old in Bronx leads to calls for change from advocates

The shooting took place late on Wednesday. Police responded to a call at 2249 Morris Ave. and found Shabazz with a gunshot wound to the torso. He was transported to St. Barnabas Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Police say Shabazz was walking with his brother before he was shot. Surveillance video shows people running down Morris Avenue after the shooting.
Bronx Rises Against Gun Violence told News 12 that this shooting took place just one day before the 14-year-old victim was scheduled to start a boxing program with them. Advocates from the organization are saying this can no longer happen in the community.
B.R.A.G. works with local community members and organizations to promote safer streets, and their goal is to provide support for victims like Shabazz and his family and to help prevent future violence in these neighborhoods.
