BOSTON - With the Bruins' outdoor games piling up, so too are their specialty uniforms.
With Boston set to take part in its fourth Discover NHL Winter Classic - and fifth-ever outdoor game - the Black & Gold were in need of yet another new sweater to don when they take on the Pittsburgh Penguins on Jan. 2 at Fenway Park.

And after paying homage to the teams of the 1940s, 1920s, and 1930s with their previous Winter Classic uniforms, the Bruins, this time around, will pay tribute to a number of different eras in team history all at once.

The black jersey with bold, gold trim and stripes also includes touches of "Vintage White" throughout, chiefly on the numbers, name plate, and 'Boston' lettering. The light beige was "meant to evoke aged textile as if this garment was found in a trunk deep in the back of an old skate shop," according to the official press release announcing the jerseys.
The numbers, letters, and crest are a "vintage felt" with "decorative top stitch."

'Boston' is arched across the front of the jersey in a "custom typeface created by adidas and inspired by the original Spoked-B worn in 1948." The arch-style of Boston is a "nod to New England amateur hockey" while the bear logo - which is re-colored to more of a brown tint from the orginal gold - underneath it is known for being the Bruins' secondary logo and shoulder patch from 1976 through the early 1990s. The Winter Classic logo patch sits on the right shoulder.

The inside back collar of the sweater is a nod to the Green Monster with "Boston" and the date of the game in white blocked letters like the panels on the wall's manual scoreboard.

The pants feature a similar version of the Spoked-B to the one the Bruins wore on their gold jerseys during the 2010 Winter Classic at Fenway.

The gloves are a brown-ish, gold blend that gives off the look of the old-school leather gloves that were worn by hockey players of generations past.

Sights and sounds from Winter Classic jersey shoot

While we're at it, here's a look back at Boston's past Winter Classic uniforms:

2010 - Fenway Park | Bruins 2, Flyers 1 (OT)
For the 2010 Winter Classic against the Philadelphia Flyers, also at Fenway Park - the Bruins' inaugural outdoor game - Boston donned a gold jersey with a rounded Spoked-B, reminiscent of the team's inaugural jersey logo from the 1948-49 season.

2016 - Gillette Stadium | Bruins 1, Canadiens 5
For Boston's second Winter Classic outing against the rival Montreal Canadiens in Foxborough, the black sweater was a throwback to 1924 - the Bruins' first year in the NHL - with "Boston" arched over an illustrated bear and "Bruins."

2019 - Notre Dame Stadium | Bruins 4, Blackhawks 2
When the B's traveled to South Bend, Indiana, for their third Winter Classic, they donned a white uniform with brown and gold trim and a block-style 'B' that paid homage to the Bruins sweaters from 1932-36.
