A kidnapped girl from Michigan has been found safe in Texas and her mother is facing charges, police said.
Zora Armstrong, 4, who was allegedly kidnapped by her mother Laquita Armstrong-Cavin, 36, was found in San Angelo, Texas, according to the Kent County Sheriff's Office.
Armstrong-Cavin, who does not have custody of Zora, had allegedly taken the 4-year-old after arranging a supervised shopping trip Tuesday. She had been staying with the girl in a San Angelo motel, and was arrested as of 7 p.m. Thursday, investigators said.
Armstrong, who was found unharmed, was turned over to Children's Services in Texas. Work is underway to bring the 4-year-old back to Michigan, according to the sheriff's office.
The Kent County Prosecutor's Office authorized a warrant against Armstrong-Cavin for kidnapping – custodial interference, which is a one-year felony, investigators said.
Extradition for Armstrong-Cavin is pending.
