Man shoots himself while cleaning his gun: Avon Lake Police Blotter

AVON LAKE, Ohio

Personal injury: Walker Road

On Nov. 20, police were dispatched to the Cleveland Clinic in Avon for a report of an accidental gunshot wound.

The man, who accidentally shot himself while cleaning his gun, was transferred to Fairview Hospital.

Domestic violence: Halle Court

An 18-year-old who was drunk and causing a disturbance Nov. 21 was charged with domestic violence, underage alcohol consumption, disorderly conduct while intoxicated, obstructing official business, Illegal conveyance of weapons, drugs or other prohibited items onto grounds of detention facility or institution, underage possession of tobacco products, and possession of marijuana/marijuana paraphernalia.

Theft: Armour Road

On Nov. 21, a resident reported paying several thousand dollars for construction work. The work was never done and the contractor stopped communicating with the complainant.

Domestic violence: Miller Road

A neighbor reported that a man and woman were having a loud argument in their driveway Nov. 24 and that the man punched out the back window of a vehicle.

Police located the drunk man, who said he had had an argument with his girlfriend.

She reported that the man hit her in the face while she was driving, then punched out the back window of her car.

The man was arrested and transported to the emergency room for cuts on his hand. He was later transported to another hospital for a psychiatric evaluation. The man will be transported to the Lorain County Jail upon release.

OVI: North Point Drive

On Nov. 25, police were dispatched for a report of a drunk driver who had struck several cars. Officers arrived and found several damaged vehicles, as well as the driver responsible. The driver was charged with drunk driving.

Disorderly conduct: Lear Road

Officers were dispatched to a residence for an unwanted person who was drunk on Nov. 27. The complainant just wanted the man to leave.

Police transported the suspect home. Forty-five minutes later, they were called again because he had returned. The suspect was arrested and charged with disorderly conduct-intoxication.

Theft: Avon Belden Road

A man reported Nov. 28 that a contractor had been paid to build two gates and did not perform the work.

Theft: Orchard Park Drive

On Nov. 15, a resident reported that someone in a BMW had stolen an item from his mailbox. Units stopped the vehicle and were unable to find the stolen item. They released the occupants.

Shoplifting: Walker Road

On Nov. 16, a woman was cited for petty theft after being caught shoplifting.

Theft: Cottonwood Court

A resident reported that two checks had been stolen from his mailbox Nov. 17.

Fraud: Electric Boulevard

On Nov. 20, a business owner reported that his wife and the business were victims of identity theft and fraud. A checking account had been opened in their business’ name and attached to their Square account.

Approximately $5,000 was transferred to an Apple account and used to purchase cosmetics online.
