A man was arrested Friday evening in connection with a fatal shooting at a Clayton County shopping center, police said.
Authorities responded to the Pointe South Shopping Center off Pointe South Parkway and Ga. 85 at about 2:40 p.m. regarding a person shot. The victim, identified as 31-year-old Corey Brooks, had been shot multiple times and was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.
According to Channel 2 Action News, Brooks and a friend were at the location when the victim was shot while getting out of an SUV. Family members at the scene said Brooks was the nephew of Riverdale Mayor Evelyn Wynn-Dixon.
“Corey has never been known to be a violent person. He had just had his second child, was very well liked in the community, comes from a good home,” the victim’s cousin, William Winn, told the news station.
Andre Bullock, 38, was taken into custody and is facing charges of murder, aggravated assault and two counts of possession of a weapon during the commission of a crime, police announced nearly six hours after the incident.
