Status of Pitt’s Remaining 2023 Commitments

Published

on

It’s been a rough couple week for the Pitt Panthers in terms of defections from the program, either through decommitments or transfers.

Wide receiver Jaylon Barden, defensive back Judson Tallandier, cornerback Khalil Anderson and defensive end Sam Williams all announced this week their intentions of transferring. Keep in mind, some transfers are 100% the decision of the player, while others are “encouraged” by the program. In terms of de-commitments, Pitt lost 3-star cornerback Brice Pollock and 3-star offensive lineman Phillip Daniels.

Pitt now has 13 commitments in their Class of 2023, but will they be losing anyone else?

Pittsburgh Sports Now reached out to these 13 players and asked them where things stood with Pitt and their level of commitment. Could they possibly take any official visits over the last couple of weeks, prior to National Signing Day?

Here are the players that responded and the ones that haven’t (up until this point).

Tai Ray, 3-Star OL from Apopka, Florida: “As of right now I’m 100% locked in with Pitt. this school has shown me a lot more than others.

Montravius LLoyd, 3-Star RB from St. Petersburg, Florida: “Me and Pitt stand firm. I could possibly take visits but I’m probably not. I’ve built a great relationship with Coach sanders, Coach Powell and Coach Narduzzi and I feel comfortable where I’m at right now. Things could change but I don’t see that coming no time soon as signing day is approaching.”

Jesse Anderson, 3-Star DB from Fort Lauderdale, Florida:I don’t plan to make any other visits. Everything with Pitt is looking good. 100 percent don’t plan on decommitting. I feel Pitt is home and I hope they feel the same way 💯

BJ Willliams, 3-Star OL from Fairburn, Georgia: “I’m 100% locked in with Pitt. I am early enrolling, so I don’t have any other visits planned. Overall things are great. Coach Duz, Collins, and Borbely check up on me weekly and occasionally other coaches check up on me as well.

Isaiah Neal, 3-Star DL from Baltimore, Maryland: “I’m committed.”

Antonio Camon, 3-Star DL from Tampa, Florida: “I’m fully locked in with Pitt. I’m not going nowhere. I don’t see myself playing anywhere else.”

Ryan Carretta, 3-Star OL from Columbus, Ohio: “I am still 100% locked in and I am not doing any visits. For me, I saw myself fit best at Pitt, and I have made a great connection to the coaches throughout this whole process. It’s been a hectic few weeks but I feel like these things will make the players who stay a lot closer than we used to be.”

Kenny Johnson, 3-Star WR from York, Pennsylvania: “I am 100 percent locked in and have no intentions in going anywhere. I found my home. My family loves it, I love it and my coaches are the best. Where else would I go!”

Braylan Lovelace, 3-Star LB from Leechburg, Pennsylvania: “I am 100% committed to Pitt. Very excited to have the ability to go in early and do what I can to help the team and learn the Pitt defense and better myself. I had other visits and chose not to go, with no thoughts of decommitting. Pitt made me feel like family and I still feel that love. I grew up a Pitt fan all my life and to be able to play for them still amazes me to this day. Pitt is like my 2nd home, and I can’t wait to move in and make it be officially my home away from home! H2P!”

Up until this point, PSN did not hear back from wide receiver Lamar Seymore, cornerback Shadarian Harrison, 3-star linebacker Jordan Bass and 3-star linebacker Rasheem Biles.

After the Minchey bs…I’m 100% committed and will be enrolling early (I actually believed him…what a sap), I don’t trust anything that that these kids say now.

Agreed, unless it’s Alabama, Ohio State no commitment is safe. People are always looking for something better (until they find out it’s not)

Minchey wanted a Notre Dame official visit after making that comment. Narduzzi don’t fool with that non-sense. He was likely told to decommit like the two other 23’ recruits who were entertaining other Officials after “Committing”.
Say what you want about Narduzzi, he’s pretty much no non-sense.
Players play, Coaches Coach, Referees Ref, and he allows Attorneys to Defend.

The FBS really needs to replace the word ‘commitment’ with something more realistic like ‘front runner’. With NIL, ‘commitment’ is no longer valid terminology.
