CLEVELAND, Ohio – A man was arrested Friday in connection with the slaying of a 16-year-old boy in November, according to authorities.

Darrion Malone, 19, was wanted by the Cleveland Division of Police on charges of aggravated murder because of his involvement in the death of Jamil Tell Jr. of Cleveland. On Nov. 1, an argument broke out between two teens in an apartment in the 1500 block of Ansel Road. After the argument, Malone and two other individuals entered the apartment and shot and killed Tell Jr., police said.

Malone was charged in Friday in Cleveland’s Municipal Court, records show. His case will be transferred to the Cuyahoga County Common Pleas Court in the next few weeks.

Malone was arrested in a home in the 9300 block of Amesbury Avenue by members of the Northern Ohio Violent Fugitive Task Force, a unit run by the U.S. Marshals. Malone barricaded himself in an upstairs bedroom of a residence before he surrendered to authorities.

U.S. Marshal Pete Elliott applauded police for their swift work in handling the case.

“The Cleveland Division of Police homicide division was very efficient with their investigation on this case, which also led to a quick and safe arrest,” Elliott said in a statement.

Malone has a case pending in Common Pleas Court, where he is accused of receiving stolen property and failure to comply with the order or signal of a police officer, court records show.
