Newly unsealed court documents reveal that Joseph Kennedy, a person of interest in the murders of four Okmulgee men, allegedly confessed to a woman in Gore that he had killed them because he thought they were stealing from him.
Kennedy was transported back to Oklahoma after fleeing to Florida in an friend's stolen car. He is currently being held at the Okmulgee County Detention Center on a $10,000,000 bond.
Court documents reveal that on Oct. 9 at 3 p.m., the last day anyone saw Mark Chastain, Billy Chastain, Mike Sparks, and Alex Stevens, Kennedy parked his PT Cruiser at the Great Plains Coca-Cola Bottling Plant, across the street from a scrap yard.
Mark Chastain had his cell phone on his person, and phone records indicate that his phone arrived at the scrap yard just after 5:30 p.m. A sheriff's deputy in the area reported hearing gunshots just before 6:30 p.m.
Court documents say video shows Kennedy left the scrap yard wearing a different shirt than he arrived in at 8 p.m., and then left the area in his PT Cruiser.
Kennedy returned to park at the Coca-Cola plant on Oct. 10 at 1:19 a.m. in a Toyota truck. He left his truck and walked north on Madison Avenue twice before driving his truck to the vacant lot that borders the scrap yard known as Pine Field.
At 6:22 a.m., a truck was seen leaving Pine Field and driving west on Sharp Road. The bodies of the four men were found in the Deep Fork River on Oct. 14, and can be seen from a bridge that is Sharp Road.
Court documents say that officers found personal items of Mark Chastain's in Pine Field that were covered with what officers believed to be blood.
On Oct. 14, Kennedy allegedly parked his PT Cruiser behind a warehouse in Morris, and stole the Toyota truck belonging to his friend.
At 3 a.m. Oct. 15, Kennedy arrived at a woman's house in Gore, where he allegedly told her the men were stealing from him and he had killed them and cut them up. Kennedy also allegedly had a bicycle of one of the victims with him at this time as well.
Kennedy then fled to Florida, where he was arrested after being pulled over for driving a stolen car.
Kennedy is still considered a person of interest in the investigation.
