UPDATE: Louisiana murder suspect killed on I-77
Crane was also wanted for kidnapping
MERCER COUNTY, W.Va. (WVVA) - UPDATE (2:50)
The West Virginia State Police (WVSP) released a statement following Friday’s events.
Early Fri. Dec. 2, Law Enforcement from Louisiana contacted WVSP to inform them that a man who was wanted for murder and kidnapping might be in West Virginia.
An amber alert had been issued for the child.
After tracking the suspect down, he was located in a stolen vehicle near I-77 South off Exit 20 in Mercer County. When troopers approached the vehicle, the suspect retrieved a firearm and shot the weapon. A WVSP trooper then returned fire. The suspect was pronounced dead at the scene. Baton Rouge Police identified the suspect as Napoleon Crane, 29, from Louisiana.
The 6-month-old child was located in the back seat of the vehicle and was reported as unharmed.
The investigation remains active and ongoing.
UPDATE (2:45)
A man accused of shooting and killing Da’Ja Davis, 28, in Baton Rouge on Thursday, Dec. 1, was shot and killed on Friday, Dec. 2, the Baton Rouge Police Department confirmed. Baton Rouge Police said Davis was Crane’s girlfriend.
UPDATE (12:30 p.m.)
Reporters on scene have said that there are at least 11 police vehicles at the scene and Exit 20 is blocked on the Southbound side.
Two Division of National Resource vehicles and an ambulance from the Princeton Rescue Squad are also on scene.
West Virginia State Police is handling the investigation.
