Letter to the Editor

December 1, 2022

Editor:
In response to the 11/17/2022 Letter to The Editor. Taken from the State College resident’s statement “Republicans’ have called for cuts to Social Security & Medicare” (and the ‘Clincher’ of hypocrisy) – “Republican rejection of ‘Quid Pro Quo Joe’ Biden’s plan to provide debt relief to 26 million low-income citizens with college loans.”

First the College Debt Amnesty- Imagine how those that worked nights (while attending college) to pay their way through and/ or have paid off their student loans through hard work and determination to pay their own way, must feel? Joe wants them to pay for the 26 million free ride!! What a slap-in-the-face!

Now the DNC socialists’ never-ending lie that Republicans want to cut Medicare and Social Security- Per the Republicans “Commitment To America.” Medicare’s Hospital Insurance trust fund will run out of money in 2028, according to the June 2022 Medicare trustees report. Quote- A fiscal year 2023 budget proposal from the Republican Study Committee (RSC) suggests, to save the solvency, the Medicare eligibility age should be adjusted to gradually raise the Medicare age of eligibility to 67 due to an increase in the average life expectancy.

Social Security’s Old-Age and Survivors Insurance Trust Fund is projected to be depleted after 2034. A previous 2022 budget proposal from the RSC also suggested that Social Security’s retirement age be upped to 70. The 2023 RSC proposal also recommends that employers and workers could be allowed to forgo paying a portion of payroll taxes, which are used to fund programs such as Social Security and Medicare, and “instead use those funds to pay for private disability insurance.” If, there’s a better, or, more logical way to save both programs, it has yet to be revealed. Certainly not by the Democrats, anyway.

Biden takes credit (as he brags) that 9 million new jobs have been created under his administration since he was (Gulp!) elected. Bottom line- The jobs were simply refilled by those that lost them during the pandemic – Not created by him, as Joe would have us believe. Isn’t it odd though, that 6 million available jobs go unfulfilled? Do you suppose that the monies ‘doled-out’ to those that held the 6 million lost jobs might be such that, rather than return to work, they feed at the trough of free money and food stamps dished out by Uncle Joe? Republicans- “Commitment With America,” as outlined in their campaign for the 2022 mid-terms, included a conservative welfare overhaul — focused on work requirements… aka .. focusing on welfare reform, making sure that work requirements are put in place for able-bodied healthy adults. And, making sure income verification is in place for welfare programs. ‘Bubba’ Clinton did it, and it worked.

As to the 2022 mid-term “Red Wave” that wasn’t. USSR Dictator Joseph Stalin said it correctly (or so he’s been quoted as having said)- “Those who vote decide nothing – those who count the votes decide everything.”
