December arrived with little snow and frosty temperatures to Carson Valley.

Temperatures were down to single digits, with Minden-Tahoe Airport reporting 3 degrees just before dawn on Friday.

A layer of ice lie under the snow after around a quarter inch of rain fell near Genoa.

Schools were on a 90-minute delay while bus drivers chained up to deal with slick road conditions.

Chains or snow tires were required on Highway 395 from the intersection with Highway 88 all the way to Topaz and on Highway 208 from Holbrook Junction east.

Four-wheel drive and snow tires were the only way to avoid chaining up in the mountains.

Warmer conditions are expected today as a new storm arrives in Carson Valley.

Snow levels are expected to rise to 6,500-7,000 feet before dropping to below 5,000 feet on Sunday night.

Results of the next storm will be similar to Thursdays with perhaps a half to an inch of snow through Monday, with about a foot in the Sierra over the next three days.

A watch for high avalanche danger was issued for Sunday from Highway 4 north to Highway 49 with the storm loading new snow onto a weak snowpack.
