Lions win home-opener
The Bakersfield Lions boys’ basketball team started off their season with a thriller of a home-opener against Alton on Nov. 22.
The visiting Comets battled, but behind Ethan Cotter’s 38-point offensive clinic, the Lions came away with the win over the scrappy Alton squad, 86-72.
Bakersfield’s JV squad lost a lead they had built against the JV Comets and fell in two quarters of action 24-20.
For the varsity Lions, the Van Buren Shootout was up next on the calendar on Saturday where the Lions faced a solid Greenville team.
Despite another offensive explosion by Lion standout Ethan Cotter, who erupted for 30 points, the Lions lost to Greenville 81-63. Connor Jones added 10 points for Bakersfield in the loss.
The Lions are scheduled to play in the Mansfield Invitational Tournament Dec. 6-9.
