Canyon to host Christmas in Canyon event Saturday

Officials with the city of Canyon released information about street closures and safety related to the events occurring for the Christmas in Canyon event on Saturday.

According to its Facebook page, parking in the square will close at 2 p.m. Cars also parked along 4th Ave. from 15th St. to 20th St. will also need to be moved. At 4:30 p.m., the following streets will shut down:

Because of the fireworks after the parade and the tree lighting, the area around City Hall, including 16th St. from 4th Ave. to 5th Ave., the front parking lot of the Cole Community Center, 3rd Ave. from the center to the end of the fire station along with the parking lot behind City Hall, will be blocked off with no pedestrians allowed through. Officials said in the post that these streets will be blocked as fireworks will be shot off the roof of City Hall.

CANYON, Texas (KAMR/KCIT) — The city of Canyon’s Chamber of Commerce released the details for its annual Christmas in Canyon event, scheduled for Saturday.

According to a flyer from the chamber, the event will begin at 10 a.m. with the Christmas Open House at the Panhandle-Plains Historical Museum. According to previous reports by MyHighPlains.com, this event will include Christmas activities for the community like holiday-themed crafts, hearing Christmas stories and songs as well as an appearance by Santa and Mrs. Claus.

The West Texas A&M University Pre-Vet Club will then host a Santa Paws event at 12:30 p.m. Saturday. Visit with Santa will then continue at the Canyon Lions Club at 4 p.m. Saturday.

The Christmas in Canyon festivities will then close at 6:30 p.m. with a Parade of Lights, with a tree lighting ceremony and Christmas Fireworks show following the tree lighting.
