The Dec. 2, 2022, R-C Morning Report

Genoa, Nev. — All Douglas County schools are on a 90-minute delay this morning due to winter weather and road conditions. Chains or snow tires are required on Highway 395 from the intersection with Highway 88 all the way to Topaz and on Highway 208 from Holbrook Junction east.

Kingsbury Grade and Highway 50 at Lake Tahoe remain slick and are requiring chains unless a vehicle has four-wheel drive and snow tires. If you’ve got somewhere to go this morning, be ready for a long commute.

Fireworks went off in the rain and snow after the wind died down in Gardnerville on Thursday night. Genoans are caroling in the town church starting around 5:30 p.m. while Minden plans to throw the switch on the Gazebo around 6 p.m. If you want to have breakfast with Santa in Genoa on Saturday morning, you should get your tickets at the Town offices today.

I’ve got a separate story on the Parade of Lights coming out this morning. Suffice to say the roads will close between 4-4:30 p.m. Saturday.

While you’re out and about tonight, keep an eye out for wildlife. A 450-pound bear was hit and killed on Jacks Valley Road on Wednesday night and a deer was down near Walley’s Hot Springs by the side of Foothill Road south of Genoa. I’ve detected a couple of dead skunks on the roads over the past few days.

It's frosty out this morning with the Weather Service reporting 7 degrees in Minden. There’s an inch of snow on my table in Genoa, and Fredericksburg resident Jeff Garvin reports a half-inch further south. Around a quarter-inch of rain fell before it turned to snow in the Valley.

The forecast calls for clear skies and a high of 38 degrees. The wind will die down this morning Saturday will open with snow and then change to rain for the rest of the day.
