Firefighter Injured Battling Tricky Two-Alarm Carroll County House Fire

One firefighter had to be treated for injuries as crews contended with a tricky early-morning two-alarm wall fire that broke out in Carroll County, officials said.

The Union Bridge fire caused an estimated $200,000 in damage, officials said.

Shortly before 7 a.m. on Thursday, Dec. 1, first responders in Union Bridge were called to the 600 block of Raywell Avenue when a passerby alerted them to a fire that broke out in a multi-family home.

According to the Maryland State Fire Marshal, a crew of 50 firefighters from the Union Bridge Volunteer Fire Company and nearby agencies responded to the call, where they were met with a fire that had sparked inside a wall at the residence and quickly spread.

It took firefighters approximately an hour and a half to get the flames under control, but not before it caused an estimated $200,000 in damage to the residence and its contents, according to the fire marshal.

Officials noted that one firefighter was evaluated and treated for non-life-threatening injuries. No other injuries were reported.

There was not a fire alarm or sprinkler inside the residence, and it is unknown whether there was a smoke alarm active or if it was activated. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
