FREEPORT (WGME) -- One of Maine’s most popular holiday celebrations kicks off on Friday.
The 2022 Sparkle Celebration in Freeport begins with the Parade of Lights, which ends with Santa arriving to bring the famous talking Christmas Tree to life.
It's a fan favorite with dozens of floats and marching groups leading a parade down Main Street. The event runs from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. Friday.
The fun continues all week with lots of lights and holiday merrymaking, including the annual decorating contest and gift certificate giveaways with the Stealth Elf.
The Sparkle Stroll on the evening on December 8 will include special deals and door prizes.
Visit Freeport says they are introducing the Sparkle edition of their very popular Frosty Frolic with food trucks, fire pits, holiday tunes, tasty treats, gifts for giving, and a collection of personal goods for Freeport Community Services on December 10.
Martha Stewart, who is very familiar to Maine, called Freeport one of the "most charming small towns to visit during the Christmas season."
