The 76,000-square foot Ronald McDonald House will be the largest of the three current Ronald McDonald houses in the St. Louis area, with a capacity to house families increasing from 59 to 92 rooms.
Families with very ill children will be able to use the residence as a “home away from home.” Tishaura Jones, the mayor of St. Louis, will attend Friday’s groundbreaking event. The building will be complete sometime in 2024.
The two current Ronald McDonald houses in the city of St. Louis will eventually close when the new facility opens. There will then be one Ronald McDonald house in the city of St. Louis and one in the county right by Mercy Hospital in the Creve Coeur area.
Organizers say there is a tremendous need for more family housing in the St. Louis region. Under the current operations, more than 30 families are on the waitlist to secure a room each night in the St. Louis area.
