The Adams administration announced a new mental health policy, which will allow police officers to hospitalize some individuals, without their consent, based on their mental illness.

Some officials have expressed their concerns over the new policy.

In response to the new policy, Councilmember Tiffany Cabán, who serves on the Mental Health committee, joined Errol Louis on “Inside City Hall” Wednesday said in other cities, “there are more options.”

“We really have to dig deeper on investing in that continuum of care, that infrastructure, and setting the right markers and metrics for success,” she said. “Yes we want to send the right responder and the right response, but at the end of the day, we should be aiming, our goal should be reducing the number of times we respond.”
