Young scores 20-plus for third-straight game, Hill adds double-double in loss

HOUSTON – Despite senior Tiara Young scoring 21 points and a season-high 40.7 percent field goal shooting performance as a team, the University of Houston women's basketball team lost 67-64 to UT Arlington inside Fertitta Center on Thursday night.

Young's 21 points comes after a career-high 23 last Saturday against Florida and 20 points against Portland on Thanksgiving Day, making it the third consecutive game she has scored at least 20 points. Young is the first Cougar since Jasmyne Harris in 2018 to score 20-plus in three straight games.

Graduate Tatyana Hill recorded a double-double with 11 points and 13 rebounds. Laila Blair (14) and De'Myla Brown (12) also reached double-digits in the scoring column.

Houston (1-6) shot a season best 40.7 percent from the field, their highest mark of the season. UT Arlington (4-4) led nearly the entire game, but never led by more than 12.

Free throws proved to be the difference maker as the Cougars shot 48.0 percent whereas UT Arlington made 63.6 percent of its attempts. For the first time this season, the Cougars attempted more shots from the charity stripe than their opponent (25-22).

Both teams ranked top two in their league in steals per game and both added 11 more tonight. Young tied her career high with five steals in the game.
