After helping deliver Kamiakin girls soccer a third place finish at the 4A state tournament, Braves forward Kate Christian won SWX's Athlete of the Month.

“I couldn't have asked for a better season," said Christian during an interview on Wednesday. "We got to end on a win. Yes, that semi-final game definitely didn't go the way we wanted it to, but I was just so proud of us that we got to end on a win and a big win. 6-1, that was pretty impressive. I think that game came down to a team that wanted it the most and was still willing to fight. We wanted that third place trophy. I think we couldn't have ended the season better.”

Christian won the Mid Columbia Conference's Player of the Year this fall after scoring 18 goals, which tied for the Braves' team lead. This past season, Christian had the opportunity to team up and put pressure on opposing defenses with her younger sister, Brooke.

"We had two sister goals this year where one of us assisted the other. We had one in the Southridge game, and that was so cool. It was so fun getting to play with her. I'm excited to see if she'll go on to play at the next level and everything. It was just a really cool experience getting to play with her."

The two sisters won't wear the Kamiakin jersey together anymore, but Kate won't have to hang up her soccer cleats. The senior will head to Logan to play at Utah State University next fall.

Athlete of the Month: Kamiakin's Kate Christian

“Soccer is a game of mistakes. Soccer has taught me it's okay to make mistakes, and it's what you learn from those mistakes and what you do with them in the future. I've made so many mistakes. I've scored own goals and missed big PKs and everything. Those just teach you how to be better and how to improve the next time you're on the field and off the field."

Christian said that one of the reasons that she enjoys playing soccer so much is because of the community it has built around her.

"I played on a club team with a lot of the girls that are on this Kamiakin team since I was 8. Having those friends, I always want to be at soccer practice because I get to see my friends at soccer. That's definitely been a huge motivator."

Congratulations to Kate Christian and her family.
