Local church to host A Night of Bethlehem

(Seguin) – A local church is celebrating the holiday season with a Night at Bethlehem. Transporting you back to the days leading up to the birth of Jesus, the church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints will be hosting a free event showcasing dozens of collected Nativity scenes plus the opportunity to have children don on the costumes of the biblical scene. The event will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday at the church.

Coordinating the effort is church member Shaunna Johnson. Johnson says the church is excited about all the holiday offerings that evening. More importantly, she says the invitation is being extended to anyone in the community.

“The kids’ room, we are going to have kids’ nativities that they can look at and play with and touch. We are going to have a little live nativity where they can dress up as part of the nativity scene, Mary, Joseph, the Angel, Shepherds, and stuff. We are going to have little kids’ crafts. We are going to have a room that is just full of all different nativities. A bunch of people from our congregation have let us to borrow their nativity sets and so we are going to have them set up really nice. As far as I know, we have over 50 different ones right now so it will be kind of neat seeing the different ones,” said Johnson.

Johnson says even after Saturday, the community is invited to stop by the church grounds for a reminder of what the season is really all about.

“Then outside as well, we have a beautiful life size nativity set that we have put up and kind of constructed a stable and there will be benches where people can sit. We are going to have a board with a QR code where they can scan and watch the Story of the Christ Child of Jesus’s birth and just kind of sit and ponder and think about Christmas and what the Christmas season is about and then we are going to have that open for the full Christmas season – that outside nativity so if people can’t make it on Saturday, it will be open and they can come and see that,” said Johnson.

Free family photos, hot cocoa and cookies will also be available. The church is located at 1111 E. College St.
