It’s been a busy Thursday night at The Postman after it was closed for more than a month. KeAnna Rose Pickett, the owner and former wife of D'Vonne Pickett Jr. said she has to wear many hats.
“Now that D’vonne’s not here, I’m having to be the CEO and COO," Pickett said.
Her husband, D’vonne Pickett Jr. owned the shipping services shop with her here in the Central District. D’vonne was a loving father, husband, and community leader who wanted to open up the shop as a way to give back.
On Oct. 19, he was gunned down outside the store they worked so tirelessly to build.
“We designed this from our own two minds," said Pickett. "I’m just reminded every time I walk in here, this is just what we created, just like looking at one of my kids, we created this.”
While the business is up and running, KeAnna still has a lot on her plate.
“I cried couple of times yesterday—things were kind of not working, or they would work or would not and it was just like, who do I call,” asked KeAnna.
Those were Problems that D'Vonne would be there to help her with.
“D’vonne, that was my best friend," Pickett continued. "That’s who I go to talk about everything that’s going on.”
While she has to wear many hats, she’s up for the challenge to continue what she and her husband started.
“It’s another one of our children," Pickett said. "We have three kids together, but we also have this business together.”
