Mexican national pleaded guilty to federal immigration crime

CHARLESTON, W.Va. (WCHS) —
A Mexican national pleaded guilty to a federal immigration crime Thursday.

Gerardo Tomas-Avila, 32, pleaded guilty to illegally reentering the United States and was placed into custody of Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents for deportation, according to a news release from the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of West Virginia.
The news release said Tomas-Avila was arrested by ICE agents in Elkview on Aug. 19. The man admitted to illegally reentering United States after being deported in June 2012.

Federal prosecutors said the previous removal had followed an incident in Taylor County, Kentucky on April 7, 2012 when Tomas-Avila was arrested for DUI.
