The 25-day countdown to Christmas started on Dec. 1st and Jefferson City’s mayor kicked off the celebration with the annual Jaycee Christmas tree lighting.
The 17th Annual Mayor's Christmas tree lighting took place at Rotary Centennial Park. Governor Mike Parson was in attendance and thanked Mayor Carrie Tergin for all her hard work.
Tergin’s term as mayor of Jefferson City ends in 2023 and was honored by JC Parks with a Hallmark Christmas-themed tree.
The 27-foot tree was decorated with green, red, and gold.
The crowd indulged in free hot chocolate and cookies which were donated by the Rotary Club.
During the event, Jefferson City Community Band, Capital City High School band, and Helias Catholic High School Choir performed Christmas classics.
Attendees were encouraged to donate nonperishable food items and unwrapped toys to the salvation army.
