Iowa State Fair cuts vendors over fraud concerns

Iowa State Fair cuts vendors over fraud concerns
BACK HERE IN IOWA, FOR VENDORS AT THE STATE FAIR. NOT GOING TO BE ALLOWED BACK THIS YEAR OVER ACCUSATIONS OF FRAUD. ONLY ON KCCI, ONE OF THE VENDORS TOLD OUR MARCUS MCINTOSH HERE, THEY’RE HEARTBROKEN. STEVE WE SAT DOWN WITH OUR VENDOR ABOUT 2 HOURS AGO, JUST BEFORE 4:00 THIS AFTERNOON. NOW, DAD’S OLD FASHIONED LEMONADE. WE SPOKE WITH THAT OWNER HAS BEEN A STATE FAIR MAINSTAY SINCE 1948, THAT DECADES LONG LEGACY IS NOW OVER. AND TONIGHT, THE OWNER IS DEFENDING HERSELF. IT HAS BEEN A LONG FEW WEEKS SINCE NOVEMBER 7TH, WHEN DIANE PERRY ON HER DAD’S OLD FASHIONED LEMONADE, RECEIVED THIS LETTER FROM THE IOWA STATE FAIR INFORMING HER OF THE SPOT HER LEMONADE STAND HAS CALLED HOME FOR 73 YEARS. IS HOME NO MORE. AND IT WAS JUST EMOTIONALLY SAD. I MEAN, IT’S LIKE A LEGACY THAT’S NO LONGER THERE. THE STATE FAIR’S REASONING FOR SHUTTING DOWN DAD’S OLD FASHIONED LEMONADE IS CLEAR. WE RECEIVED A STATEMENT THAT READS, THE IOWA DEPARTMENT OF REVENUE MADE THE FAIR WHERE FRAUD TAKING PLACE DURING THE 2022 IOWA STATE FAIR BY CONCESSIONS OPERATORS AND IN RESPONSE WILL NOT BE OFFERING THEM A FUTURE CONTRACT TO DO BUSINESS. PERRY SAYS SHE KNOWS THE INCIDENT. THE FAIR POINTS TO US FRAUD. WE WERE AUDITED LAST YEAR AND THEY TRIED TO SAY THAT WE WERE NOT CLAIMING ALL OF OUR FUNDS, BUT WE WERE. AND WE PROVED THAT WE WERE. PERRY SAYS THEY WERE SHUT DOWN FOR 2 HOURS AND WERE ABLE TO PROVE ALL THE MONEY WAS ACCOUNTED FOR. THE LETTER CAME AS A GUT PUNCH. SHE THINKS THERE IS ANOTHER REASON HER LEMONADE STAND GOT ITS WALKING PAPERS AND I COULD BE TOTALLY WRONG IS THAT WE JUST DIDN’T MAKE ENOUGH MONEY FOR THE FAIR BOARD. A HARSH REALITY HAS SET IN. PERRY KNOWS THERE IS LITTLE SHE CAN DO AND THOSE HARD DAYS OF SELLING LEMONADE AT THE FAIR ARE OVER. DAYS SHE WILL MISS. IT MEANS EVERYTHING. IT’S A FAMILY TRADITION. WE LOVE DOING IT BECAUSE IT’S IT’S WHAT WE’VE DONE FOR SO MANY YEARS. AS WE MENTIONED, DAD’S OLD FASHION LEMONADE STAND WAS ONE OF FOUR VENDORS WHO RECEIVED THE LETTER STATING THEY WILL NOT BE WELCOMED BACK TO THE FAIR IN 2023. FAIR OFFICIALS HAV
