HAPPEN WHEN YOU REACH OUT AND TALK TO YOUR NEIGHBORS. YOU MIGHT BE ABLE TO HAVE A BIGGER IMPACT THAN YOU THINK. IT’S A CHILLY DAY BUT HEARTS ARE WARM. >> I THINK HE FEELS SUPER BLESSED AND LUCKY. EMILY: LAUREN REECE LIVES JUST DOWN THE STREET FROM THIS HOUSE WHERE THIS PEELING AND POUNDING WILL END IN A NEW ROOF FOR CEDRICK WALKER. AND IT’S ALL PAID FOR. >> GOING THROUGH THE PLANNING PHASE IS ONE THING BUT SEEING IT HAPPEN IS ANOTHER, SO, I THINK HE IS EXCITED. EMILY: IT ALL STARTED WITH A NEIGHBORHOOD SCARE. A NEARBY HOUSE BURNED DOWN SPARKING A CONVERSATION ABOUT HOME INSURANCE. LAUREN FOUND OUT NO ONE WOULD INSURE CEDRIC BECAUSE HE NEEDED A NEW ROOF. BUT UNABLE TO WORK DUE TO AN INJURY THERE WAS NO WAY HE COULD PAY FOR ONE. >> BECAUSE OF THE PANDEMIC AND SUPPLY CHAIN IT SEEMS LIKE EVERYTHING IS DOUBLE TO WHAT IT USED THE COST. EMILY: SO LAUREN STARTED A GOFUNDME RAISING MORE THAN $5,000 SHE ALSO GOT IN TOUCH WITH SHAMROCK ROOFING WHO AGREED TO COVER THE REST OF THE COST. >> WE LIKE TO STEP IN WHERE WE CAN AND SAY USE THE GOFUNDME AND THEN WE WILL STEP IN AND HELP WITH THE REST. EMILY: LAUREN IS HUMBLED BY THE SUPPORT THAT WILL PROTECT THIS HOME AND THE PEOPLE IN IT

A nearby house burned down sparking a conversation about home insurance. Reece found out no one would insure Walker’s home because he needed a new roof.Unable to work due to an injury, there was no way he could pay for one, so Reece started a GoFundMe, raising more than $5,000. She also got in touch with Shamrock Roofing, who agreed to cover the rest of the cost, about $10,000.“We like to step in where we can help our community,” said Sarah Terry with Shamrock Roofing. “And so we told them, ‘hey, use the GoFundMe for the chimney.
