Based on Charlie Mackesy's best-selling book of the same name, the BBC is bringing this beautiful animated film to screens this festive season.

Sure to be a hit for all the family.

This adaptation of Andrew O'Hagan's novel stars Line of Duty's Martin Compston, The Flash's Tony Curran and Agatha Raisin's Ashley Jensen.

Set in a small Scottish town, Mayflies is a story of youth, hope and friendship that's born from the late '80s and spans more than 30 years.

Happy Valley

Back for its highly anticipated third and final season, Sally Wainwright's multi-BAFTA award winning series will delight fans this Christmas season.

We already know that the new episodes will be picking up seven years after the last time we saw Catherine Cawood and, with talk of retirement in the air, we're sure it's going to be an emotional ending.

Call the Midwife

BBC

There's a lot of excitement building for this Christmas Special, particularly as a recent behind-the-scenes teaser revealed that work had also begun on the follow-up series 12.

While many of the plot details are under wraps, we know (thanks to show creator Heidi Thomas, via Radio Times) that "something rather wonderful happens to Trixie".

Death in Paradise

The BBC's beloved series is no stranger to a cameo, and fans went wild when it was announced that Doctor Who's Jo Martin would be showing up in the festive feature-length episode.

We know that "Christmas in Saint Marie takes a spooky turn" this year, with a case that's linked to Selwyn's past and "the hunt for a missing child".

The synopsis also teases the possibility of love for Neville Parker...

His Dark Materials

The door will close on this epic trilogy as His Dark Materials takes a bow with its final season, based on Philip Pullman's book The Amber Spyglass.

Gogglebox favourite and The Masked Singer judge Mo Gilligan will front this brand new music-themed game show for the BBC, set to launch over Christmas.

Filmed in LA, That's My Jam brags an impressive list of guest stars from the worlds of television, music and entertainment.

Lucifer's Tom Ellis, Drag Race's Courtney Act, Jason Derulo, Grey's Anatomy's Camilla Luddington, Donny Osmond and Selling Sunset's Chrishell Stause have all been announced (to name just a few).

Would it even be Christmas without a trip back to the ballroom for a Strictly special?

With a host of new celebrities added to the roster – and more still to be confirmed at the time of writing – it's one not to miss for fans of the flagship BBC dance show.

Once again the craft experts will get to work on restoring some treasured Christmas keepsakes, providing the ultimate feel-good telly for the holiday season.

In case you didn't know by now, you'll need a box of tissues at the ready.

James Stack//BBC

Series creators Reece Shearsmith and Steve Pemberton are bringing us a one-off festive episode of their award-winning anthology series, complete with stars Shobna Gulati (Coronation Street) and Simon Callow (The Witcher, Doctor Who).

Dr Jasper Parkway is set to book in for a stay in a haunted church on Christmas Eve – which fits the theme of Christmas ghost stories fairly well, don't you think?

Ghosts

preview for Ghosts - Season 4 Trailer (BBC)

We can all expect a visit from Alison (Charlotte Ritchie) and Mike Cooper (Kiell Smith-Bynoe) this holiday season, as Ghosts returns to our screens for a special episode.

The Ghosts wish to give Alison a Christmas gift, but we're sure it's not going to be that easy to pull off.

TV Editor, Digital Spy Laura has been watching television for over 30 years and professionally writing about entertainment for almost 10 of those.  Previously at LOOK and now heading up the TV desk at the UK's biggest TV and movies site Digital Spy, Laura has helped steer conversations around some of the most popular shows on the box. Laura has appeared on Channel 5 News and radio to talk viewing habits and TV recommendations.  As well as putting her nerd-level Buffy knowledge to good use during an IRL meet with Sarah Michelle Gellar, Laura also once had afternoon tea with One Direction, has sat around the fire pit of the Love Island villa, spoken to Sir David Attenborough about the world's oceans and even interviewed Rylan from inside the Big Brother house (housemate status, forever pending).
