An officer and a suspect both sustained minor injuries after a traffic stop on Highway 280 led to an altercation, according to the Mountain Brook Police Department.
Police said officers conducted a traffic stop at Cahaba Village Plaza around 11:07 a.m. Thursday. During the traffic stop, police attempted to take a passenger of the vehicle into custody. Police said the passenger physically resisted the arrest.
Multiple officers responded to the scene which included different law enforcement agencies.
The passenger and the driver of the vehicle were both arrested and transported to the Mountain Brook Police Department.
The department said the arresting officer and one suspect "sustained minor scrapes." Both were treated by medics at the scene.
Jonathan Lamarick Nelson and Michael Karl Jones were charged Friday. Police did not specify which suspect was the driver of the vehicle or which suspect was injured.
Nelson was charged with Receiving Stolen Property, Certain Person Forbidden to Possess Pistol, Unlawful Possession of a Controlled Substance, and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. The total bond for Nelson was $45,500.
Jones was charged with Obstructing Justice Using a False Identity and Resisting Arrest. The total bond for Jones was $17,500.
