The Great Ideas Reading and Discussion Group

Participants will be asked to complete a brief reading and then join us once every two weeks to discuss readings from "Great Books of the Western World," compiled by Mortimer J. Adler, an American philosopher. Some of the topics will include chance, religion and history.

The sessions will be lead by community member Brian Hansen. The schedule and readings can be found below or download a Word doc on the presenter's website.

Frank Lloyd Wright & The Prairie School

Join us for a conversation with one of the foremost authorities on the work of Frank Lloyd Wright, architectural historian Jack Quinan. Presented in complement to our current special exhibit, Tipi to Tiny House: Hands-on Homebuilding.

The Prairie School, with Wright it’s most famous proponent, endeavored to evoke the wide, flat, treeless expanses of America's native prairie landscape. According to Wright’s concept of "organic architecture," a structure should appear as if were "married to the ground."

Wine, beer, and concessions available for purchase. The Museum is open late (5 - 9 pm) on Thursdays! Make a night of it by visiting the exhibits before the talk.

The Library has more than 10,000 LEGO pieces, and at LEGO Club, we get them all out and build! Each time the club meets, we have a different building challenge. We also make a 'shared build' together. Family event- adults and kids build together. Kids younger than 10 years old must be accompanied by someone older than 14 years old dedicated to their care.

Visit with Santa at Callahan House

Visit with Santa at the Historic Callahan House, 312 Terry St., between 3:30-7:30 pm on Friday, Dec. 2. Reservations open Nov. 18 and are required online at rec.ci.longmont.co.us (keyword Santa) or by calling 303-774-4700 for each person in your party. Longmont Mayor Joan Peck and Mayor Pro Tem Aren Rodriguez are hosting a series of four meetups for Longmont residents to talk about specific topics that are important to the community. This series of community conversations were held on Saturdays every quarter in 2022.

The Boulder County Area Agency on Aging (BCAAA)'s Rainbow Elders program is hosting the 22nd Annual Lavender Gala on Sunday, Dec. 4 from 1 to 4 p.m. This event features a three-course lunch hosted at Nissi’s Entertainment Venue and Event Center in Lafayette. Entertainment will feature “Gender Illusion Technician,” Mrs. Eda Bagel and dancing with DJ Susie Pringle. This is a celebration of and for the LGBTQ+ older adult community of Boulder County and allies.

It’s time to plan your Longmont Lights parade float! Don’t miss the opportunity to showcase your business or organization in lights at 5 pm on Saturday, Dec. 10, during the annual holiday parade on Main Street. A Mental Health Partners Kid Connects in the Neighborhood class

About the Class

Join the Kid Connects in the Neighborhood team of Early Childhood mental health professionals for a course for ALL caregivers-parents, grandparents, aunts/uncles, and neighbors who care for children 0-5. We all know that caring for young children can be stressful, especially during these trying times. In this presentation, we will use brain science to understand the importance of self-care as it relates to co-regulation. We will also give participants an opportunity to learn more self-care strategies. These strategies will support positive self-care practices as well as in the moment strategies to manage intense moments.

This is a free course for ALL caregivers: parents, grandparents, aunts/uncles and neighbors who care for children birth- 5 years old.

As a THANK YOU for enduring COVID restrictions, Longmont Recreation is teaming up to offer a special city-wide pass valid Dec. 23 through Jan. 8, 2023. Come and color your world with local author Lulu Buck and enjoy a reading of the children's book "Sue's Sky"!

Sue's Sky is a book about acceptance using the gentle metaphor of the sky to encourage kids to accept others' perspectives of the world around them. Parents will receive a resource to support their child in safe spaces, being aware of our bias and anti-bullying.

Kids will get to paint their sky with the author. This will be a fun, hands-on art experience around our identities and based on the book "Sue's Sky".
