Dartmouth police said Thursday that two men were arrested in connection with an incident that triggered an Amber Alert.
Police said they were called Thursday morning to 1143 Tucker Rd. in Dartmouth for a report of several people arguing.
Once at the house, a man told the responding officer that 21-year-old Jeremias Cabral of Fall River, threatened him with a knife and stole his phone.
The officer was told Cabral forced a woman, who officials identified as Hannah Benson, and her six-month-old infant into a car being driven by 28-year-old Michael Abrantes of Fall River.
An Amber Alert was issued just after 2 p.m. as officials believed the woman and her child to be “in jeopardy,” according to Dartmouth police.
The car was later found empty. About 10 minutes after that, state police said Cabral, Benson and the child were found at an address in Fall River and the alert was canceled around 30 minutes after it was issued. Police said Benson and her child were unharmed.
Police said Cabral and Abrantes were taken into custody.
Investigators said after interviewing Benson, she claims she and her child were not abducted and that she left willingly without being threatened.
Police described Cabral as Benson's former boyfriend, but they said it was unclear if he is the baby's father.
Cabral was charged with assault by means of a dangerous weapon and larceny and Abrantes was charged with possession of both a Class A and Class B drug.
