ENGLISHTOWN, N.J. (1010 WINS) — A carjacking trio from Brooklyn targeted a car in a New Jersey parking lot Wednesday that, unbeknownst to them, needed a flat tire change, putting a halt to their planned escape.

The driver was waiting for AAA to change her tire in the Walgreens parking lot in Englishtown when two men and a woman forced her out of her 2015 Mazda 3 around 9 a.m., according to a police statement posted on Facebook. She then immediately called 911.

The carjackers were forced to pull into the Congregation Sons of Israel parking lot in Manalapan after escaping east onto Gordons Corner Road. Manalapan Police then took the suspects into custody.

Rayj Durant, 20, Tyler Lares, 18, and Hazma Williams, 19, are charged with carjacking, motor vehicle theft, theft and conspiracy, police said. Williams was also charged with hindering apprehension.

The trio is being held at the Monmouth County jail ahead of a detention hearing.
