A large tree that came down in Queens during Wednesday night's storm took power and cable lines with it, leaving several nearby homes without electricity overnight.

Gusty winds took the tree on 197th Street in Hollis down around 10 p.m. on Wednesday, inches away from Sayeed Nazmi's home.

Nazmi said the block's residents had been concerned about the stability of the tree since Hurricane Sandy — and had repeatedly called 311 with those concerns, even as recently as Nov. 10.

He and his family had to maneuver through branches to take his grandson to school.

“Luckily we were saved. Look at how it ended up,“ Nazmi said.

A few homes in the area were without power overnight, but power was restored by Thursday morning.

“I was watching TV, and then I heard like, I saw like, a firework, it was like, sparks, so I get up, and I got scared, and I heard a sound like this, boom, and then all of a sudden, I don’t know, I was in shock,“ said Angela Lewin, who lives on the block.

Cable lines allowed the tree to be partially suspended. One car was able to drive away without a scratch on it.

“This one, no damage, no damage really,” said the lucky driver, who owns a laundromat around the corner from where the tree fell.

The driver said he grabbed a saw and cut his way out. With a few clever maneuvers, he was on his way.

The city's Department of Parks and Recreation said it received more than 200 service requests related to Wednesday's storm. Forestry crews were out Thursday helping to clear streets and sidewalks.
