MIAMI -- An accident in Miami Thursday morning sent 3 people to the hospital and closed down the area along W 27th Ave and Flagler.

Police tells us around 10:30 Thursday morning the crime prevention unit of the Midwest district was looking for criminal activity in this area around Flagler.

An area MDPD says is known for criminal activity involving narcotics.

"They observed a white van that was parked caught their attention…once they did a routine records check of that van they were able to confirm that the van was reported stolen," says Alvaro Zabaleta with MDPD.

MDPD says that's when they started to follow the van and attempted to conduct a felony stop near northwest 7th street.

"That's when the vehicle refused to stop and fled in an easterly direction on NW 7th Street," says Zabaleta.

Their Aviation unit assisted to helped locate the van and avoid a pursuit.

That's when the accident happened.

The white sedan going northbound and the van going southbound into traffic.

"One van had crashed into a building with an adult female who was trapped we also found two patients lying on the floor next to a white sedan and immediately sent to the hospital the male in stable condition the female in critical condition with multiple fractures," Lieutenant Pete Sanchez with Miami Fire Rescue.

That car was a rideshare; police tell us the male was an Uber driver and the woman was a passenger in the back seat.

The woman in van was stuck inside and in critical condition.

"The patient was heavily intrused between the dash of the wall and the building it took about 10 minutes for technical recuse crews to be able to extricate her and free her from the vehicle and transported in critical condition," says Sanchez.

Names have not been released and police say the driver of the van in critical condition may have committed other crimes.

"They were looking for a vehicle that matched this description a white van also a female that's involved in multiple burglaries in this area," says Zabaleta.

Police say they found narcotics paraphernalia inside the vehicle and narcotics outside the vehicle in the surrounding area.

Which is consistent with what they were looking for in the area.
